Jean Lacouture

author

Jean Lacouture (1921–2015) was a prolific French journalist, historian, and biographer. He began his career in journalism in 1950 with 'Combat' as a diplomatic redactor before joining 'Le Monde' in 1951. Lacouture became renowned for his extensive reporting on international affairs, decolonization, and the lives of prominent political figures. He authored over 70 books, including monumental multi-volume biographies of Charles de Gaulle, Gamal Abdel Nasser, and François Mitterrand. A former professor at the Institute for Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Paris, he was also an adviser to Éditions du Seuil. His work is noted for its humanistic approach to history and his deep engagement with the political shifts of the 20th century.
