Jean-Paul Vroom

author · designer

Jean-Paul Vroom (1922–2006) was a versatile Dutch visual artist, designer, and illustrator. Born in The Hague, he received his initial education from his father, a set designer and painter, before studying at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague starting in 1938. He moved to Paris at a young age to study printmaking, where he became an engraver. Vroom's diverse career spanned theater design (notably for the National Ballet), lithography, screen printing, and painting. His work was influenced by Bauhaus style, New Realism, and Surrealism. In 1969, he published 'He: Visual Information about a Human Being', an artist book that explored conceptual photography and human anatomy as a response to Marshall McLuhan's theories on mass media.[1,2,3,4]
