Jem Southam
photographer
Jem Southam is a British landscape photographer and educator. Born in Bristol in 1950, he studied creative photography at the London College of Printing before working at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol from 1976 to 1982. He has taught photography for many years at the University of Plymouth, where he is currently an emeritus Professor of Photography in the School of Art, Design and Architecture. Southam's work primarily focuses on the rural landscape of the South West of England, characterized by long-term studies of selected sites to trace changes over seasons and years. He utilizes an 8x10 large format view camera for his practice.[4,5]
