Judy Dater

Judy Dater is a renowned American photographer and artist known for her intimate and insightful portraits and nudes. Her work became strongly associated with the feminist movement in the 1960s and 1970s, as she used photography to challenge traditional conceptions of the female body. She studied art at UCLA (1959–1962) before moving to San Francisco, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1963 and a master's degree in 1966 from San Francisco State University. Dater has been a major figure in photography since the 1960s and continues to work today. She has received numerous prestigious awards and grants, including a Guggenheim fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation grant for a residency at Bellagio, a Djerassie Artist in Residence grant, and two National Endowment for the Arts Grants.[1]
