Karal Ann Marling is an American cultural historian and writer, currently serving as a professor emerita at the University of Minnesota. She is an American studies scholar with a specialized focus on visual arts. Marling has held academic positions at Case Western Reserve and Vassar College before her tenure at the University of Minnesota in 1977. Her scholarship includes exhibition catalogs, studies of individual artists and art movements, and historical surveys of American cultural icons. She is noted for the clarity of her writing and the thoroughness of her research into American visual culture and its historical context.[1]
