Merry A. Foresta

Merry Foresta is an American art historian and curator who served as the first curator of photography at the Smithsonian American Art Museum from 1983 to 1999. She also served as the senior curator of photography for the Smithsonian's International Art Museums Division and was the founding director of the Smithsonian Photography Initiative from 2000 to 2010. She has authored numerous catalog essays and books, including "At First Sight: Photography and the Smithsonian" (2002) and the co-edited "Photography Changes Everything" (2012). Her work focuses on the intersection of photography, history, and contemporary art, establishing one of the world's premier collections of American photography.[1]
