Manuel Álvarez Bravo was a pioneering Mexican photographer regarded as one of the leading representatives of twentieth-century Latin American photography. Born in Mexico City, he began his career in the late 1920s after working for the Mexican Treasury Department and later for muralists like Diego Rivera. His work is characterized by its poetic, humanistic gaze, often blending mystical symbolism with everyday life. He was an emblematic figure of the Mexican Renaissance, capturing both the modernization of Mexico and its deep-rooted cultural identity.
