photographer
Manuel Costa Martins (1922–1996) was a Portuguese architect, professor, and photographer. He graduated from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts and later studied at the Schools of Fine Arts in Lisbon and Porto, completing his architecture degree in 1956. While primarily known for his architectural work, he possessed a profound passion for painting and photography. Between 1956 and 1959, he collaborated with Victor Palla to document the city of Lisbon. Their joint project, 'Lisboa, Cidade Triste e Alegre' (1959), is considered a landmark in Portuguese photographic history, capturing the daily life and urban atmosphere of the capital during the mid-20th century.[6,7]
