Marten Toonder (1912-2005) was a prolific and influential Dutch comic strip creator, animator, and illustrator. He is best known for creating iconic characters such as Tom Poes (Tom Puss) and Olivier B. Bommel (Oliver B. Bumble). Toonder pioneered the professionalization of the Dutch comic industry by establishing the Toonder Studio's, which produced a vast array of comics, animations, and commercial films from the 1940s through the 1980s. His work is characterized by high-quality artwork, clever storytelling, and an eccentric use of language that has influenced the Dutch language itself.
