photographer
Martinus Franciscus Josephus (Martien) Coppens was a Dutch photographer known for his extensive documentation of the Brabant region. He was the son of a clog maker and received his formal photography training at the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Lichtbildwesen in Munich. His work significantly captured the rural life of Brabant, including its farmers, families, and the local landscape. During World War II, his photo studio in Eindhoven was destroyed in the bombing of December 6, 1942. Throughout his career, he produced numerous books, participated in various exhibitions, and curated a significant photographic archive that remains a key source for regional history.[1,2,4,5]
