Matthias Wilhelm Gotthold Haekel (1876–1945) was a German jurist and politician who played a significant role in municipal administration and urban policy during the Weimar Republic. He was promoted in 1919 and subsequently served as the President of the Reichsstädtebund (Reich Cities Association) from 1920 to 1933. His expertise in communal law and city management led him to contribute extensively to urban studies. He was a prominent figure in the Deutscher Kommunal-Verlag, where he helped coordinate publications on the structural and legal aspects of German cities. His work on "Die deutschen Mittel- und Kleinstädte" (The German Medium- and Small Towns) is a notable contribution to the study of urban geography and communal organization.[1,2]
