Stephen Johnson

Stephen Johnson is an American photographer, designer, and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. His work explores the concerns of a landscape artist working in an increasingly industrialized world, with a focus on environmental issues and human-altered lands. He was the curator and editor/designer for 'At Mono Lake' (1980–1983) and is recognized as a pioneer in digital photography. Johnson has been involved in numerous high-tech consulting roles for companies like Adobe and Apple, influencing software development including Photoshop. His photographic projects include 'The Great Central Valley Project', 'Western Artifacts', and the 'Digital National Parks Project'. He has taught at various colleges since 1979 and is a founding member of X-Rite's Coloratti group.[1,2]
