Suzy Embo

photographer

Suzy Embo (born Suzanne-Thérèse Seuntjens) was a Belgian photographic artist and photographer who became a privileged witness to the post-war avant-garde art scene. She began her career at age sixteen and joined the 'Subjektive Fotografie' movement, which emphasized subjective expression over objective reality. Her work is characterized by abstract imagery, high-contrast photographs, and experimental techniques such as photograms. Embo was a close friend of several prominent artists of the period, including Pierre Alechinsky. She lived in Antwerp and her extensive archive, containing over 50,000 works, is held at the FOMU (Fotomuseum Antwerpen).[3,4]
