Taco Anema
photographer
Taco Anema is a Dutch documentary and group portrait photographer. Born in Bloemendaal in 1950, he studied sociology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam before turning to photography in the late 1970s. He gained early notoriety for his socially engaged reportage on the squatter movement in Amsterdam and the strikes of the Polish trade union Solidarność. Anema is particularly known for his large-scale group portraits, often influenced by classical painting compositions (e.g., 'De Verbeelding van Leiden' and portraits for the Holland Festival). His work focuses on human relationships within social contexts, characterized by a non-judgmental perspective and an artistic approach to composition.[1]
