Trent Parke

author · photographer

Trent Parke is an acclaimed Australian photographer and the first and only Australian to become a full member of Magnum Photos. Born in 1971 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Parke began his photographic practice at the age of 12, using his mother's camera and a makeshift darkroom. His work is distinguished by a visceral, cinematic aesthetic that blurs the lines between traditional documentary photography and metaphorical expression. Parke is renowned for his ability to transform everyday scenes into images of profound emotional intensity, often focusing on the unique light and atmosphere of Australia's urban and rural landscapes. Throughout his career, he has explored themes of national identity, human solitude, and the passage of time, frequently collaborating with his wife, photographer Narelle Autio. His work is held in numerous public and private collections globally.[1,2,3,4,5]
