Victor Manuel Palla e Carmo

Victor Manuel Palla e Carmo (known as Victor Palla) was a Portuguese architect, photographer, painter, designer, and writer. He studied at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Lisbon and Porto, completing his architecture degree in 1945. His career was multifaceted; he worked extensively in architecture with Joaquim Bento d'Almeida, designing iconic snack-bars and residential buildings in Lisbon. However, he is internationally renowned for his photographic work, particularly his collaboration with Costa Martins on the book 'Lisboa, cidade triste e alegre' (1959), which is considered a masterpiece of 20th-century Portuguese photography. Palla was also an active cultural promoter, involved in independent exhibitions and art criticism during the Estado Novo regime.^[1,2]
