Willem Diepraam

Born in Amsterdam in 1944, Willem Diepraam is a prominent Dutch photographer and author who began his professional career in 1970. After studying medicine and sociology, he transitioned from photojournalism in the 1960s and 70s to art photography, focusing on evocative landscapes, maritime themes, and social portraits. He is widely recognized for his ability to capture the human condition and the natural environment with a distinct, expressive aesthetic. His notable works include 'Frimangron' (1975), documenting Suriname, and 'The Dutch Caribbean' (1978). In 2010, he received the Piet Zwart Prize for his extensive and influential oeuvre in Dutch photography.[1,2]
