William A. Ewing is a distinguished Canadian art historian, author, curator, and museum director specializing in the history of photography. Born in Montreal, he began his career by establishing the Optica Center for Contemporary Art in 1972. He has held several prestigious leadership roles, including Director of Exhibitions at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York (1977–1984) and Director of the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne from 1996 to 2010. Ewing is a prolific author whose works explore various facets of photography, including human form, landscape, and contemporary art.
