Man Ray: Photography and Its Double
Emmanuelle de l'Ecotais / Alain Sayag
€24.50
A monograph on Man Ray's Rayographs, solarizations and portraits from his Paris years, with many previously unpublished images.
Photographs by Man Ray from his Paris years, which began in 1921, including Rayographs, solarizations and nude studies. Portraits of Nancy Cunard, Lee Miller, Yves Tanguy and Marcel Duchamp appear alongside fashion, still life and reportage work. Many of the 290 black-and-white illustrations are previously unpublished, among them several erotic compositions. The book also shows working stages such as crops and background manipulation alongside the finished prints. The text is a set of essays by international specialists on Man Ray's career as a photographer, his methods of invention and his treatment of Surrealism. It is a monograph that accompanied the exhibition 'Man Ray, La photographie à l'Envers' at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, Paris, in 1998.
