Hans van der Meer
author · photographer
Hans van der Meer is a Dutch photographer and author known for his documentation of the Dutch landscape, architecture, and culture. He began his professional career in the 1980s, studying visual communication at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. His work often captures the subtle nuances of the Dutch environment, from industrial sites to rural fields. He gained significant recognition for his book 'Hollandse Velden' (Dutch Fields), which explores the rural landscape of the Netherlands. His artistic style often combines photography with text to offer a poetic and sometimes humorous observation of the 'enigmatic' Dutch countryside. He has been invited to exhibit his work internationally, including in France, Italy, Germany, and Japan. He has also been commissioned by major publications like NRC Handelsblad to provide visual and written commentaries on Dutch culture and the changing face of its towns.[1]
