Cas Oorthuys

Casparus Bernardus (Cas) Oorthuys was a prominent Dutch photographer and designer known for his humanistic and documentary approach to everyday life and reconstruction. Born in 1908, he began his career as an architectural draftsman before shifting to photography in 1936. He became a leading figure in postwar Dutch photography, particularly recognized for his social reportage, travel photography, and artistic documentary work. Oorthuys was also a member of the Dutch resistance during World War II. His work is characterized by a keen observation of the human condition and the changing Dutch landscape. He passed away in 1975, leaving a significant legacy in Dutch visual culture.[1,2,3,4]
